Palermo is an exuberant and eclectic city that is rich in history, art, architecture, and... tasty food!
For an exciting introduction to one of Italy’s most buoyant cities, we take you on a walk through the colorful and winding alleys of Palermo’s most famous historic food market. Grab the opportunity to admire some of the most outstanding Palermo baroque churches that are hidden in the midst of fish, vegetable and fruit stands. Learn about the foods and recipes that are associated with local feasts, some of which date back to medieval times and, of course, indulge in Palermo’s famous “street foods”. We will visit the iconic 12th-century Cathedral of Palermo famous for its variety of architectural styles and the Royal Palace with its marvelous Palatine Chapel – a true Jewel of Arab-Norman art (UNESCO Heritage Site). Throughout our tour we will see old Arab quarters spread out among the narrow lanes of the inner city, the Square of Shame and the stunning Arabic style domes atop the Church of Martorana.
